Habitat for Humanity of Oregon and its state partners are excited to welcome New York Times best-selling author Heather McGhee to the Western Region Conference later this month.
A renowned expert on the American economy, McGhee is one of the most brilliant and influential thinkers exploring inequality today. Both her viral TED talk and her book “The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together” reveal the devastating true cost of racism. Deeply stirring, intelligent, and compassionate, McGhee’s talks offer us an actionable roadmap to how we can prosper together during one of the most critical periods in history.
Habitat for Humanity and other housing and social justice leaders from California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington and beyond will gather in Portland, Oregon united by the theme of “Unlocking the future: Building with courage and compassion.” Over the span of three days, we will zero in on how Habitat will engage our local communities to build more homes and evoke change in ourselves and in legislation advocating for equity in housing that is affordable.
About the Western Region Conference
The Western Region Conference is a biennial training experience organized and presented by the Habitat for Humanity affiliate support organizations in California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington. Our teams work alongside more than 100 Habitat for Humanity affiliates building and repairing homes across the western United States. We provide operational support, sustainable financial resources and disaster preparedness and recovery. Additionally, our organizations coordinate statewide advocacy and engage in the critical work of public policy and rulemaking. The 2023 conference is supported by generous partners from across the region.
