About Habitat for Humanity of Oregon
Habitat for Humanity of Oregon is a State Support Organization (SSO) providing fundraising, training and technical assistance, advocacy and disaster preparedness to 26 Habitat for Humanity affiliates — the offices of dedicated staff and volunteers building and repairing homes across our state. Founded in 1995 through a covenant between Habitat for Humanity International and Oregon affiliates, Habitat Oregon plays an important role by helping local affiliates build resources and best serve their communities.
Last year Oregon Habitat affiliates provided affordable homeownership and repair services to over 127 hardworking families in Oregon. Of these families, 85 received the keys to homes they helped to build and are purchasing from Habitat with a 0%-interest mortgage. With each mortgage payment, the generosity of volunteers, donors and in-kind contributors will be paid forward for years to come. Local Habitat affiliates have already begun using the principal from these payments to build and repair the next 100+ homes.
As Habitat turns toward revitalizing neighborhoods and communities, we are expanding our toolkit to include affordable home repairs, along with new home construction. Oregon Habitat affiliates can make a meaningful impact by helping families to preserve a key asset: their home. Volunteer-built wheelchair ramps make it possible for seniors to age in place. Sealed windows and a functioning roof reduce heating bills and contribute to a healthy home environment.
Habitat affiliates are expanding their program offerings statewide, and they will continue to provide affordable homeownership opportunities to low-income households who are unable to purchase a home through any other means. Each affiliate’s home repair program will be tailored to meet specific community needs — supplementing the weatherization and repair programs already provided by other community organizations. By partnering together, we can help more Oregonians have access to healthy and affordable homes on a much faster timeline.

All are Welcome
Habitat for Humanity of Oregon works under an open-door policy: All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. In short, Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion. As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.
